The Praying Hands sculpture is located in the Greenwood Cultural Center, once the heart of Tulsa’s African American community. The center honors the history and culture of black Americans and features exhibits on music, art, and literature. It’s a great place to learn more about the vital role that African Americans have played in Tulsa’s history. The statue is about 12 feet tall, and it depicts two hands clasped together as if in prayer. The hands are very life-like, modeled after those of Polasek’s wife. There are several inscriptions around the base of the statue, including one that says, “He who goes forth bearing nothing but love, shall be met with love.” Information about Hiking and Camping at Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness in Tulsa, Oklahoma can be found here.
